The mysterious 'Bonding'

Never have i been able to sell the idea of 'Bonding' to a customer, and i can see why. However it is one of the most important safety features of the installation in your home, hopefully this blog will help.

Bonding takes a couple of forms, however you may hear the words 'Main Bonding', this is one of the most important features of the installation as it protects you from electric shock, especially if you have metal water pipes, or exposed metal that is connected to earth.

Essentially if you were to simultaneously touch, two different pieces of metal that were connected to the earth (pipes etc), for instance a metal cooker and a water pipe/tap you could get an electric shock if a fault were to occur.

Bonding makes sure that all exposed metal work in your property is connected together, and if a fault were to occur it would operate the protective devices in time to ensure a fatal electric shock wouldn't happen.
